A little about us

Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Larne High School. I am incredibly proud to have the privilege of working alongside a dedicated team of over one hundred staff who work tirelessly to provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for almost 850 young people to study, learn and grow together during their time as pupils in the school.

Larne High School is a non-selective controlled secondary school catering for pupils of all abilities from age 11-18. We base the young person’s educational experience on the three values of Respect, Community and Achievement and it is at the heart of the school’s ethos to provide an inclusive learning environment in which all pupils can reach their full potential, whether they have a Special Educational Need, need to follow a traditional academic route through school or require a blend of traditional and vocational learning. Larne High School has built its strong reputation in catering for everyone and delivering excellent results at all levels. The school offers a full range of academic and vocational qualifications at Key Stage 4 and A Level, and we hope that as many pupils as possible will remain with us for the seven year journey of post-primary school. We also offer a wide range of specialist settings for young people with additional needs and are confident that we can cater for the individual needs and aspirations of all young people who seek a place in the school.

Success is in our nature

Our pupils consistently achieve outcomes broadly in line with the Northern Ireland and UK averages at both GCSE and A Level, providing them with a strong foundation for their next steps. But success is about more than examination results. We empower every pupil to discover their strengths, develop their aspirations and follow a career pathway that is right for them. Whether their ambition is to progress to a top university, pursue further education, enter employment or secure a work-based apprenticeship, we believe there is no single definition of success. Every pupil who walks through our doors leaves us after five or seven years with a strong set of qualifications, the skills and confidence to take their next step, and a clear understanding of the pathway towards their chosen career.

Larne High School delivers this high level of success to its pupils because of high quality teaching and learning. Teaching in itself, however, is not enough to develop our young people. A commitment to quality pastoral care and a strong family ethos give pupils a sense of security and belonging and the wide range of extra-curricular activities allows our young people to flourish – sport, music trips abroad, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, and many other activities are on offer to all our pupils.

In Larne High School we believe that a young person develops to their full potential when there are strong links between home and school. We hope that if you decide that your child should undertake his or her secondary education with us, you will support us in doing our best for your child and for all our young people.
